- j. r. r. tolkien'in notlarını derleyen oğlu tarafından 12 ciltlik bir seri olarak yayınlanması planlanan, şimdiye kadar ilk iki kitabının yayınlandığı seri. ilki 1983'te, ikincisi ise 1984'te yayınlanmış olmasına rağmen ülkemizde ne yazık ki ilki 2002, ikincisi ise 2004 yılında yayınlanmıştır. türkçeye kayıp öyküler kitabı olarak çevrilmiştir.
bu 12 ciltlik seri silmarillion'da anlatılan orta dünya tarihinin genişletilmiş halidir. şimdiye kadar yayınlanmış olan ilk iki kitabın içeriği ise şöyledir:
